The work bench top is again flat and looks as good as new! All in all it took about 2 hours from start to applying the linseed oil finish. I also took the time to add a much needed extra dog hole!

Starting a new phase in woodworking is best kicked off with a newly flattened bench top! I began by taking some thick shavings at a 45-degree angle in opposing directions. This picture was taken after a single pass. You can see the rather uniform low spot pattern quite easily.

I have been working on this cherry tool cabinet for some time now. I will be working on this between other projects and as time allows. I will be finishing the plane storage next and then on to the doors. Cherry with Waterlox is my favorite finish!

I both love and hate this process. It does get better once the wood begins to be cut and something begins to take shape. Until then, I will just have to be patient.

Today I went to "The Woodworking Show" in Indianapolis. The amount of venders and instructors was amazing! The first booth I headed to was Lee Valley's! Hands down, two of the best tools in the show were the VERITAS shooting plane and the new VERITAS line of custom hand planes. The shooting plane was a massive chunk of metal and slid like it was rails back and forth on the shooting board. The new line of custom planes were really well made, solid, and well engineered. I was highly impressed - so impressed that I forgot to take a picture of them!

Due to frequent use, the stop on my shooting board has been slowly shaved away to the point were I get some blow-out on the piece I am squaring. This is due to the small amount of unsupported wood right where the plane iron exits the piece. The question at hand is "how" and "if" it needs repaired...
